For those disappointed by this year’s weak home sales, here’s a bit of good news: Mortgage access is loosening, and not just for upper-income households, according to data released Thursday. A gauge of mortgage-credit availability rose last month to the highest level in more than three years, thanks to greater access to jumbo loans and easing standards for loans insured by the Federal Housing Administration, according to a Mortgage Bankers Association report.
