Keeping It In Perspective – Why We Do What We Do
by John Hoxsey, Certified Master Loan Processor (CMLP)

As we leave the Christmas Holiday behind and move into the New Year, it is a good time to remind ourselves why we do what we do. This business can get a person moving so fast and can push you off balance before you can bat an eye.

I read a book recently by a psychologist that had an interesting perspective. He was spending so much time in his office that his relationships at home were suffering. Think about that. A psychologist whose job is to help people with their relationships was missing the whole point of his practice.

The thought, in his mind, was that if he grew his business and provided monetarily for his wife and family that he would be giving his family a good home. In reality, he was spending so much time at work that he did not have much of a relationship with his loved ones. This person spent so much time giving to his clients that he had nothing left to give at home. He talked to clients 8 to 10 hours a day and had nothing left to say by the time he got home. Work was exhausting him.

He decided to stop overemphasizing his business and did the following. Instead of staying late to take on more clients he left early and treated his wife as his most important client. He was no longer too exhausted to speak and he fostered the relationship he and his wife had been missing.

An amazing thing happened as a result. His business grew.

You see – when you develop strong relationships at home you carry yourself differently at the office. You are more confident, people trust you more, and you have the energy to do more in shorter periods of time.

One of my goals this year is to help as many of you become as successful as you should be without forgetting what is important. We do not need to sacrifice what is important in order to have success. One of the purposes of my article is to point out ways to do more in less time and grow our businesses to their full capacity without working our finger to the bone. Let’s work smart, not hard and take the time to enjoy what is really important.

Personally I would like to see all of us take the entire week between Christmas and New Years off in 2008. After all - are loans more important then time spent with family over the holidays?

Remember - Your reputation is your business.

Happy Processing!!!
